Network refresh with no service interruption
Replacing an undocumented eleven-year-old network, floor by floor.
What Made It Hard
The existing network was eleven years old and no longer documented. Nobody knew for certain which cable served which room. At the same time, the hospital information system could not lose connectivity, because inpatient records are accessed around the clock.
How We Handled It
The first step was not swapping hardware but remapping every existing cable route. Once that map existed, the refresh ran floor by floor. Each floor was given a temporary parallel path first, tested, and only then was the old path taken down. Cutovers took seconds rather than hours.
